Soil Passport™ is a technology and digital intelligence platform building the infrastructure for a more measurable and connected circular bioeconomy. We connect soil intelligence, farmers, agricultural biomass, biomass-to-value technologies, bio-based products and carbon data through one digital ecosystem.
Measure the soil. Trace the biomass. Convert waste into value. Measure the impact.
"Restore the soil, reduce fertiliser, deliver nutrient-rich food — nourishing the world and building a healthier society."

Dr Bibhuti Bhusan Pattnayak is the Founder and CEO of Soil Passport Ltd — a visionary philanthropist, humanitarian, climate strategist, media entrepreneur and education leader advancing eight UN Sustainable Development Goals worldwide. He holds a PhD from the Swiss School of Business and Research (SSBR), and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) and Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health (FRSPH). He brings 22+ years of international technology and leadership experience across the UK, India, South Africa, Switzerland and Spain — the same cross-border, technology-led approach now driving Soil Passport™'s AI and satellite-powered climate intelligence platform.
Different parts of the Soil Passport™ ecosystem are at different stages of development. Here's an honest picture of where each one stands today.
Alpha launched and validated internally. Beta version is now live on Android. iOS version is in validation ahead of release.
A patent application has been filed for the sensor design. Production is planned to begin following patent approval.
A provisional patent has been filed. Technical validation of the measurement approach is in progress.
Concept and process design are complete. Technical validation is underway, with an estimated further six months to completion.
Agriculture generates enormous quantities of biomass residues, while farmers need better information about soil, water, crops and farm productivity. At the same time, industries are looking for traceable renewable materials, energy and lower-carbon alternatives. Soil Passport™ connects these challenges into one ecosystem.
The objective is to create a continuous information and value cycle rather than treating soil testing, biomass management, bioenergy and carbon as separate activities.
We help create a digital record of the condition of a field through soil testing, laboratory data, sensors, satellite information and other relevant datasets — bringing together pH, EC, NPK, soil organic carbon, moisture, temperature, salinity, crop and field information, and historical measurements into a baseline that can be monitored over time.
The platform can record the path from farmer to field, crop, residue, collection and processing — helping participating biomass plants understand where biomass is available, what type, expected quantities, collection requirements, supply-chain traceability and farmer participation.
Through the SPX™ technology ecosystem, biomass can be processed into multiple potential products and energy streams — SPX-BIOCHAR™, SPX-BIO-OIL™, SPX-BIO-TAR™, SPX-BIO-HYDROGEN™, SPX-SYNGAS™ and renewable electricity. Exact products and yields depend on feedstock, process technology and plant configuration.
Producing a bio-based product is only part of the journey. The platform can support measurement, reporting and verification (MRV), biomass and product traceability, soil carbon data, product carbon-footprint information, biochar application records, environmental data and impact monitoring — alongside recognised methodologies and independent verification where carbon credits are pursued.
Soil testing creates the baseline.
Crop, field, weather and farm information build context.
Agricultural residues are registered and tracked from source to processing.
SPX technologies can convert biomass into biochar, bio-oil, bio-tar, hydrogen, syngas and energy.
Products can serve agricultural, industrial, energy and carbon-related applications.
Soil and environmental conditions can be monitored over time.
The resulting data can support better decisions and continuous improvement.
The platform is designed to connect multiple data layers — soil data, farmer data, crop data, biomass data, plant data, product data and carbon data.
This creates a common digital infrastructure across the ecosystem.
Our model can be deployed around individual biomass-processing facilities. For example, a regional SPX plant could connect:
The plant therefore becomes more than a processing facility — it can become part of a regional digital biomass and soil intelligence network.
We believe the future of the circular bioeconomy will require more than physical infrastructure — it will require trusted data connecting physical infrastructure. That's why Soil Passport is designed around:
Soil Passport does not need to own every farm or every biomass plant. Our role is to provide the technology, digital infrastructure, standards, data architecture and implementation support that allow partners to build and operate their own projects.
We are building a network of organisations that can help deploy the Soil Passport ecosystem across different regions and markets. Partnership opportunities may include:
We aim to build a connected ecosystem where every participating field, biomass source, processing facility and bio-based product can have a trusted digital identity.
Soil Passport™'s mission connects directly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the UK's Net Zero commitments under the Paris Agreement — not as a marketing label, but because soil health, circular biomass use and carbon removal are structurally part of what those goals require.
Soil Passport™ is developed with the support of leading UK sustainability institutions, and implemented on the ground through our India partner.
Whether you are a farmer organisation, technology provider, biomass developer, industrial customer, investor or research partner, we welcome opportunities to collaborate.
